Reminiscent of Lou Reed's masterpiece, 'Berlin,' nylon leads the listener through a sonic landscape that evokes the broken, burned out buildings of the soul, sunlight glimmering at the edges of leaden clouds. Walker writes songs that root out the difficult feelings and fears we all share and puts them out in the light of day, making something beautiful in the process. The subjects covered in nylon range from the legacy of alcoholism, to a reimagining of the execution of the philosopher Socrates. Another song describes the relationship between painter and artist evoked by Matisse's portrait "Blouse Roumaine." Despite Walker's intellectually dense approach to songwriting, the emotional truths in his words can be absorbed by simply listening to his soulful, calming voice, and the rich backdrop of acoustic instrumentation.
