简介
People don’t just become fans of Lizzie and Baba; this deliciously romantic musical duo have brought such joy and inspiration to others around the globe, that it’s more akin to joining a rather special and very happy family. Their stylish gift for original delivery of folk, blues, ragtime, and cabaret (rich with vocal harmonies, politically-charged lyrics and a deeply spiritual sensibility) is enchanting. Lizzie, on acoustic guitar, harmonica, ukulele, and occasional piano, sings with a passion that comes from beyond her very core. Like an old fashioned chanteuse she brings audiences to their feet to sing along, entertaining them with honey-roasted truths. Drawing from a variety of influences: Nina Simone, Bill Withers, Edith Piaf, Bessie Smith, Carol King and Thelonious Monk, the couple reach back to another time but are also switched on and utterly ‘now’. Performing mostly original material, with some classic covers, they tell stories through song, weaving poetry and myth into the fabric of their shows. Newcomers to their music fall instantly smitten and even the noisiest rooms are reduced to a reverential hush. Lizzie has sold more than 30,000 copies of her musical works and enjoys a worldwide fan base for her poetry and songs, some of which have been featured in films and many TV shows. In 2000/2001, Baba who is equally at home on piano or guitar, toured Peru with his jazz trio performing to enthusiastic audiences. He had studied at the New England Conservatory of Music in Boston but moved to Manhattan, where he became a musical director with the National Dance Institute of New York. This meant-to-be pairing happened in 2005 and by 2007 the duo had released, I Pledge Allegiance to Myself on Appleseed Records. Extensive touring across America followed while the record received international recognition. After a year on the road, they released a follow up two-disc live album of their folk-opera, The Tumbleweed Cabaret and now they have produced what many feel is their most outstanding work - the EP Chariots Rise.
