What People are saying…. Layers is #13 on the FOLKDJ List, for TOP ALBUM, June 2010. Lynn Hollyfield is #19 on the FOLKDJ List, for TOP ARTIST, June 2010. Maryland Independent, Dickson Mercer ‘Layers’ of Sound Power New CD from Local Folk Singer Hollyfield’ Through "Layers," Hollyfield presents a pensive, roots-driven collection of originals and two covers….each of the tracks feature the artist's angelic voice and fluid guitar picking.’ Steve Clark, Erin Radio, CHES 101.5 FM, www.erinradio.ca ""What a terrific album you've created with Layers. It's my pick of the month here on Acoustic Planet and I'm sure it will quickly become a fave with the audience. This is an album that starts with a voice that wraps itself around you like a blanket, is held together with crystal clear recording and followed up with incisive lyrics and superior instrumentation. This one's a winner!" John Rumsey, Four Strong Winds, KVMR 89.5FM “Every year a new artist comes along and captures my heart. Washington DC artist Lynn Hollyfield, in her first solo, full length release, is this years discovery. She has a voice so warm and lovely it makes you want to run out and buy concert tickets. The CD title is appropriate as she layers words, pictures of delightful vision. Most of the tunes are self written and are hopeful (unusual in a folk album). Grace Griffith provides marvelous harmony vocals on many tracks. Adding to Lynn’s fine guitar work are a wealth of talented musicians who provide layers of instrumental support. A worthy first effort bound for my top 5 of 2010. Your album is one of the best releases of 2010.” ITunes Customer Review of LAYERS, “Great Album (Five Stars)” “My Dad popped this in the car today after school, and I loved it! The music was so passionate and wonderful. Buy this album, it’s great! Lynn made me smile after a crappy day : ).” Layers is the artists first solo recording and highlights her ability as an accomplished songwriter, vocalist and guitarist. In her songwriting, Hollyfield explores the intricacies of relationships, self discovery, connections to the natural world and wonder in life experiences. The arrangements vary from guitar and voice to more filled out settings with vocal harmonies by the multi-talented Grace Griffith (harmony vocals, pennywhistle) and a varied array of musical guests including Brian Simms-Grammy Nominee- (piano), Steve Wolf (bass), Jeff Harding (harmony vocals, dobro), Nina Spruill (harmony vocals, alto flute), Diana McFadden (cello), Dan Schwartz (percussion-cajun), Jimmy Brink (percussion) and producer Marco Delmar(bass). Two songs are a collaborative effort in which Hollyfield weaves melody and music to the extraordinary poetry of writer, Carol Burbank. Hollyfield's interpretation of Julie Miller's, Broken Things and the Jazz Classic, Dream a Little Dream of Me, demonstrates the artists versatility as a singer and performer. Lynn Hollyfield has been performing in the Washington DC area for the past two decades. Her roots are from New York CIty where she started playing guitar at the age of 10 and began performing in her late teens. Hollyfield's original songs have well-crafted melodies, stand-alone lyrics and striking emotional depth. Her songwriting is truly outstanding, and stands up well if compared to the likes of Sarah McLachlan, Rosanne Cash, and the best of today’s contemporary songwriters. Her influences stem from Neil Young, CSNY, Emmylou Harris, Patty Griffin, John Hiatt and Al Petteway. But not only is Lynn adept at setting lyrics and melody to create refreshing and powerful songs—she is also an accomplished guitarist and an uncommonly versatile and passionate singer with an ear for harmony. Her songwriting has been acknowledged by placing as a finalist in several of the Mid-Atlantic Songwriting Contests. Slipping Time and Blue &Green, were her first two recordings made as part of the duo “Hollyfield & Spruill,” which received multiple Wammie nominations (Washington Area Music Association Awards). Recently, Lynn has been performing regularly with Washington, DC Icon, Grace Griffith. The new collaboration with Grace Griffith is yielding some truly exceptional music. Hollyfield’s ‘seraphic vocals’ are accompanied by ‘crisp guitar work.’ Washington Post, Mike Joyce Hollyfield’s voice is earthy and sensuous; … PG Journal “Your playing was strong and solid and "right on time" Made me want to play a Martin hearing that rich sound. Your singing was absolutely lovely. You were fabulous.” Grace Griffith-Singer/Musician, Multi WAMMIE Award Winner “Lynn is a wonderful singer/songwriter.” “Thanks for inviting me to participate in this momentous evening. A most gorgeous tone." Lynn Veronneau, Jazz Singer “You have a magnificent talent, you soar higher than a Boeing. When you're onstage and doing what you do, it's hypnotizing, or mesmerizing.” Cliff Lynn-Multimedia Poet Lynn Hollyfield's music is the golden thread that sews her passionate singing, accomplished guitar playing and refreshing songwriting, to the listener, leaving them wanting more.
