简介
King Willy was born in Quito, Ecuador, and later immigrated to the US where he complet- ed grammar school. He formed his first rock group in Guayaquil at El Colegio Americano. He later returned to New York and started a garage band called the New Generation/Alien. He also formed another band called ATTACK with his friends from High School (Newtown); that band’s name was later changed to VENUS. This group sparked the interest of record companies but eventually disbanded leaving King Willy searching for new band members. In 1990 ATTAKU was formed, a band that achieved a great deal of local exposure within NYC and the broader metropolitan area with a new rock concept: “The Crossover”. Singing in Spanish and English, they released two inde- pendent hits called “Bless La Raza” and “Rock in el Milenio”. These two hits transformed ATTAKU into a leading rock group with its own distinct and unique musical style in the New York City rock scene. King Willy also produc- es, and participates in cultural events around the city like Inti Raymi, Queens Day, the Latino Cultural Festival, and he has also ap- peared as a guest judge for beauty pageants and the television show Objetivo Fama. King Willy has also performed as a guest musician in several concerts and festivals sharing the stage with artists like Ricardo Montaner, Chayanne, Victor Manuel, and Olga Tañon, among others. In 2004, the popular newspa- per The Daily News, named King Willy “The City’s Nicest Guy”, featuring a delightful, full-page profile on him. He appeared in a Bravo network’s 2007 episode of Queer Eye for the Straight Guy, wherein the show’s hosts worked to transform his unique personal style as well as redecorate his home. King Willy promoted his new album Poemas de mi Padre on this show. A multi-faceted man, King Willy is a product of varied ancestry, descending from parents with a heritage that includes Spanish roots, as well as traces of indigenous, African and Lebanese ones. With that rich history, he considers himself a man unbound by territory, with no “flag” but that of the Earth itself. In these technologically ob- sessed times, his life is anchored by the love he has for his family and friends. In this way, King Willy has amassed the greatest wealth of all: a spiritual virtue that enables him to feel passionately. It is this passion that forms the basis of this album. His highest goal is to succeed through “Los Poemas de mi Padre”, through his “Musical Expression”.
