简介
I titled this EP "Changing," because that is exactly what my life was doing nonstop while writing and recording it. I was in the middle of a gigantic life transition, and I couldn't think of a more appropriate name to give it. In between college graduation and finding a job, I was feeling the effects of transient-ness --here one day, gone the next--thus the name Changing. I took a new and old direction when making this album. The old direction was this: I wanted to use the female vocal and arsty elements I had incorporated into the "All Is Dust Waiting to Fly" (2003 album with Dressed For Autumn), and combine it with the stripped down acoustic/homemade percussion feel of the "Freedom to Fly," (2004) album. The new direction was this: it has a bluesy-rock feel to a couple of songs, there's recorder, there's "stream of conscience" lyrics, there's a story song (10,000 Words), and my vocals tend to reflect my gospel influence. I tried to keep the best of all the worlds, ya know. Another great addition to this music were the silky, smooth-as-butter vocals of Karye Withrow. She is my father's youngest sister, and it's been good to keep the music in the family, so to speak. Her vocals give the music added depth and character, and I am deeply thankful for her contribution. Because of a strict deadline for Changing to be finished, I had to put in some long hours the week before it was released (On Sept. 19th, 2009). The night before Labor Day (the 6th of September) I decided to stay up and finish the art work. In fact I kept on into Labor Day morning until 6:30 am. I then set my alarm, crashed in my bed for about four hours, and promptly awoke to start and finish writing "10,000 Words,"--the last track on the EP. I had to have the art work and songs completely finished at least a week before the release date so that I could give the time needed to print and press the EP (about 5 business days). To make a fairly long story much shorter, I did finish it all by the grace of God (not joking), sent it off to be printed at a disc manufacturer in Richland Hills, TX, and picked it up the day before the release date. It looked great, so I took it home, gave two copies to my parents, (who will always deserve a free copy of all my music) and listened to it a few times 'cause it felt good to. I pray Changing will help.
