简介
Things are looking up in Brian Stoltz' world lately. In volume one of Bob Dylan's new autobiography Chronicles, Dylan comments on the recording of his 1989 release "Oh Mercy", which has been praised as his best recording since "Blood On The Tracks", writing: The other guitar player, Brian Stoltz, from Slidell, also played in a funky and blistering way, but he was more laid back and he had articulate schemes - been playing with the Nevilles for years. Brian's licks were thought out like piano patterns. He could play James Booker piano licks on the guitar. - Bob Dylan There's something magical about this record, though, and you might say that it was the house or the parlor room or something, but there wasn't any magic in the house. It's what Lanois and me and Willie Green and Daryl and Brian Stoltz brought to the place that made it what it was. - Bob Dylan Receiving strong support and credibility from the master himself...and with the success of his 2003 release East Of Rampart Street and a Grammy nomination that year in the Best Traditional Blues catagory,Stoltz now brings us the CD, God, Guns & Money. The singer/songwriter/guitarist brings to these uncertain times, a courageous voice that, in the tradition of Hunter S. Thompson, explores with a wicked sense of humor, the current rise in status of charlatans, thugs, thieves and war profiteers. Hypocrites beware! The following is a gracious correspondance from Alex Rawls, music editor of Gambit Weekly, New Orleans to Brian after his initial listen of God, Guns & Money: It's a strange time when you realize that speaking your mind against a ridiculous, optional war that is getting American kids killed (not to mention a whole lot of Iraqi men, women and children, many of whom aren't combatants) could be construed as controversial. These are times that beg for a Hunter Thompson-esque voice to expose the truly dark heart of a military action that, if undertaken by a non-Christian from a non-Christian country, would be called a holy war by religious fundamentalists. In addition to working with Dylan, Stoltz' stellar career includes recording and/or touring with Edie Brickell, the Neville Bros., Dr. John and a list to long to name. While touring and recording for 10 years with the world renowned Neville Bros., Stoltz has created fluid and coherent bodies of work on his own. In addition to his solo career, his skills as a songwriter has caught the attention of artist like Aaron Neville, the Neville Brothers, blues artist Coco Montoya, zydeco artist Zachary Richard and film director John Sayles. Never one to slow down, Stoltz also shares his time as partner with the touring/recording act Porter-Batiste-Stoltz. In television appearances including The Tonight Show, Saturday Night Live, Late Night with David Letterman, Austin City Limits, concerts with the Grateful Dead, Santana and Amnesty International, Stoltz has drawn critical acclaim. He has received awards from CMJ (College Music Journal) New Music Corporation for Lifetime Achievement. His co-written Healing Chant, performed by the Neville Brothers, won a Grammy for Best Pop Instrumental in 1991. Stoltz has been nominated for a 2003 Grammy in the "Best Traditional Blues" category for his contribution of "You Gotta Move" on the 2002 release Preachin' The Blues: The Music Of Mississippi Fred McDowell. He has performed on numerous music videos and his work has been called the highlight of film soundtracks such as John Sayles' City Of Hope and The Mighty Quinn. With the release of God, Guns & Money, Stoltz now ads to his rack of many hats, that of social commentator and war critic. At a time when civil rights are threatened and our own government is taking active steps to dismantle the Constitution, Stoltz speaks out for justice, for what is right and ultimately for the truth!
