简介
Heavily influenced by Prince and the Minneapolis sound of the 1980s, BAO makes upbeat and concise pop songs. The sound of this debut EP is relies heavily on vintage drum machines, bold synthesized horns, and a Nile Rodgers-inflected guitar. Opening with a track entitled "Fish Sauce," BAO wants you to know his take on the Vietnamese-American upbringing that profoundly influenced his view of self-identity and what it means to be a minority in the US. These concepts are weaved throughout the other songs on the record, which go from sentimental, to intimate, to self-deprecatingly suggestive. Reduced down to its elements, the BAO EP is fun pop music with some messages for those who don't always feel like they fit in. BAO is your jam if you're a fan of Prince and acts that resulted from his success such as Jimmy Jam and Terry Lewis, Jesse Johnson, and Morris Day and the Time. More modern influences include Blood Orange, Chromeo, and Bruno Mars. BAO is the solo project of Bao Vo, formerly writer and producer of the Asian-American electro-pop band Ming & Ping.
