简介
"Katrina Carlson is the most exciting new singer I have heard in a decade. " -Los Angeles Times "A marvelous blending of classical brilliance and pop vitality." -San Francisco Chronicle Katrina Carlson's passion and talent for music has been a distinguishing factor in her life, guiding her through her greatest times of joy and sadness. Raised in the desert landscape of Paradise Valley, Arizona, Kat began playing the piano at age eight and guitar at age twelve. As the youngest of eleven children, her older siblings surrounded her at an early age by the sounds of the seventies. She immediately connected and identified with artists such as Linda Rondstadt, Jackson Browne, Carly Simon and Fleetwood Mac. Artists who projected their "real and true selves" and who wrote songs that were "story-based, meaningful and sometimes just plain fun!" Katrina went on to pursue classical training at the Manhattan School of Music and the Brooklyn College Opera program. Looking for a change of pace, she attended Brown University and graduated with honors with a degree in International Relations, Foreign Policy and Diplomacy focusing on nuclear arms control. Naturally, she returned to her entertainment roots. "Somehow I developed this interest in egalitarianism and justice for all, which explains my studies at school. But I always felt this burning need to pursue my first love- the arts." Katrina's performances have taken her from one end of the country to the other on stage, film and television. She enjoyed a run in the New York off-Broadway Cole Porter review, You Never Know, and also appeared with Sean Young, Penny Marshall and Nell Carter in the indie film Special Delivery. In addition to acting in the film, Katrina wrote and performed two songs for the movie. "Even though I originally started off with acting, I found myself consumed with songwriting and recording and loving it all thoroughly. I had been writing songs between acting gigs for many years and I finally decided it was time to seriously pursue recording an album." Inspired by her musical experience on the film, Katrina recorded an album, Apples For Eve, which was released nationally in September of 2001. Songs from the disc were included in the critically acclaimed feature film Go Tigers!, the hit TV show Dawson's Creek, NBC's Lost and on the daytime drama Passions. Katrina's style of music blends the traditions of those aforementioned 1970's artists with today's artists to which her music is often compared: Sheryl Crow, Meredith Brooks and the Pretenders. The Apples's tour began at the Sundance Film Festival and included dates in Southern California and throughout the Northeast at venues like CBGB's and the Cleveland Hard Rock Café. Katrina recorded "Untucked," her follow-up to Apples For Eve, in Los Angeles with producer David Darling - best known for his work with Meredith Brooks and the Boxing Ghandis. The new CD will be released in the Spring of 2003 and features a special guest appearance by Benny Mardones as well as members of the Goo Goo Dolls and Oingo Boingo. Katrina was a finalist in the 2002 Rolling Stone.com/Jim Beam Emerging Artists series and her regular performances in her current residence of Los Angeles have garnered accolades from industry and fans alike.
