简介

Portland, Oregon-based songwriter, pianist and vocalist Naomi LaViolette has found her niche in the marriage of two worlds: folk singer and jazz soulstress. Combining otherworldly Sarah McLachlan-like vocals with the soul of Joni Mitchell, Norah Jones’ understated elegance and Ingrid Michaelson’s playfulness, LaViolette’s songs demand your attention. On the heels of releasing her critically acclaimed debut album in March 2012, Portland native Naomi LaViolette announces her holiday single, “Noel”. Recorded in collaboration with well-known Concert Rock Violinist Aaron Meyer. LaViolette has performed this unique arrangement of “The First Noel” in a variety of ensembles since 2006: string trio, full band, piano and 3 vocalists, and most notably with Oregon Repertory Singers in 2010 with percussion and LaViolette accompanying at the piano. LaViolette said, “Every time I’ve performed “Noel”, audiences ask for a recording of it. Finally, we’ve recorded it, and I’m thrilled to feature this duet with a talented Portland native, Aaron Meyer.” Meyer's violin performance on LaViolette’s "Noel" blends both classical and Irish fiddle techniques to create a raw, earthy presence. Meyer said, "It was such a pleasure to collaborate with Naomi on her recording of "Noel”. Her arrangement of this tune is a Christmas music must!" Meyer has earned the title "Concert Rock Violinist" with past projects as diverse as soloing with major symphonies, to touring with Everclear and Pink Martini. Currently he performs his original music with his 6-piece band combining classical, progressive rock and world music. “Noel" is consistent with LaViolette’s musical blend of vintage and current sounds. She blends Celtic and Middle Eastern melodic styles with a robust harmonization and lush instrumentation. It features a pure vocal, acoustic violin and piano, but also electronic drum loops, electric guitar and Rhodes piano with delay effect. Her arrangement of traditional English carol, originally written in the 18th century, blends melodic Celtic and Middle Eastern styles. Dean Baskerville (Sheryl Crow, Everclear, Pink Martini) provided production, engineering, and electronic programming, with Steve Sundholm providing additional programming, mixing, and mastering. Vocal, piano and synth provided by LaViolette, and violin by Meyer. Tim Ellis provides all guitar sounds with acoustic, alto, high strung, and electric guitars. Oregon Music News wrote that LaViolette’s songs “contain a layered, charging energy that penetrates you and makes you pay attention”, and The Portland Tribune has praised her balanced combination of “chops” and “lyricism”. Her music has been featured on KMHD.fm jazz radio, KINK.fm, and KATU’s AM Northwest.
