“Johnnie P” is a hip-hop artist from Tampa Florida. Johnnie previously was a part of the Tampa rap group City Squad Raw-Dawgz and went by the stage name “J-Nasty.” The group was successful locally and became a household name in certain parts of Tampa but began on a downward spiral in the mid 2000’s. Trouble with the law split the syndicate in two and feuding eventually destroyed the group. While in the rap group Johnnie attended The University of Florida and served in the U.S. Army Reserve. It was around this time Johnnie was having a change of heart. Being raised in the church, Johnnie was tired of being pulled in two different directions and felt an internal struggle for his soul. One night the feud reached an all time high where the two feuding groups exchanged fire over a long standing conflict. Johnnie recalls driving back to Gainesville, because he had class in the morning, praying that no one had died. He realized that the messages sent through his music were destructive and something had to be done about it. After struggling with the issue he decided to take a back seat and not record any music for several years. It was then Johnnie was approached by a stranger and was asked, “What are you doing?” The strange man proceeded to tell Johnnie about the angels he saw around him and how he was going to minister one day for Yahweh’s kingdom. Johnnie was shocked wondering how a complete stranger knew the struggle that he had been battling internally for so long. The man prayed with Johnnie and was never seen again. That day Johnnie decided he would use his music for positive purposes and reach the lost. He also enrolled in seminary where he is now getting a Masters of Divinity at Liberty University.
