简介
We all get to experience life, which can vary, sometimes for no apparent reason, from good to bad ... hard to easy ... slow to fast ... boring to exciting ... and on & on. Songs come anywhere from real situations to imaginary realms. This CD covers them all (except the boring, I hope!!). The first musical instrumental I ever played was a Ukulele. My father taught my sister & me three cords, and would call them out as "1, 2 & 3" while he sang "Show Me the Way to Go Home" (I think I'm still looking for that place). I never thought much about it until last year when, while at the music store, I passed a Ukulele display and picked one up --- whoa, all those memories came back and I had to have one. I went home that day and wrote "When You're Round". Of course it's got to be about living on the Island (Hawaii of course). "Right On Time" haunted me for a couple of years as to how the guitar tracks would develop. The lyrics are about what I think most guys go through, or can happen, when finding that special lady. The horn section, thanks to the Roland GR-20, was a great sound for this song (also used on "Lady Luck", "Let's Spend Some Time Together" & "Why Is It"). In Junior High I played Alto Sax for a while, but always loved the sound of the Bari Sax. I should know - I've had four successful marriages (but don't know if I'm ready for #5, yet!)! I guess you could say that "Gonna Move to the Country" shows the hermit tendencies in me. Bubba & Dixie (my 2 Shih Tzu puppies) did the usual antics they perform each time I plug in my guitar and start playing - so I couldn't help but give them some Air Time - if you ever meet them ... be careful, they'll lick you to death. I had just purchased my first ever Gibson SG guitar. It is definitely one of my favorite guitars now. It was the guitar that, so often, I would almost buy ... but then I would tell myself (actually my "then wife" would remind me) I already have enough guitars ... and hey, she was right, I can't play them all at the same time!!! You know --- I promise this is true --- in high school, my girlfriend actually said that she was tired of playing second fiddle to my guitar. When she said it I accidently laughed out loud because it caught me by surprise and it was sooo funny hearing it come out of her mouth. That's the day she broke up with me. Oh well - Go Figure! After visiting New York City several times, "I Take It Back" just flowed out through my pen. If you have never been there, it should definitely be on your Bucket List. John Lennon was right - It IS the center of the universe! I'm just not real sure where "Why Is It" came from - it must have been a movie I saw - I'm sure it hasn't anything to do with what I've been through!!! OK, "Let's Spend Some Time Together" is totally all about the single life getting de-railed by surprise. I guess you could say that my anti-government song is "Back Door Blues" - enough said! I've been on several Road-Trips and "Livin' On the Open Road" pretty much sums them up. Oh pretty LaQuita, and yes, she had a "Papa-Cop" (ask Michael R. - he'll tell you all about it). Oh yeah - once I did have a guy totally rip my shirt right off of me just because his girlfriend said "Hello" to me. Same thing happened in a small Colorado Rodeo town, except they tried to run us off the road - too bad their car was the one that went into the river (and I heard later - no insurance - Hahaha!). I wrote "That's Even More the Reason Why" especially for my daughter (ED, you know who you are). The guitar lead on this one best shows the "Texas" style I've been working on. I think every gambler ... and anyone who has some "risk" inside them will be able to relate to "Lady Luck". Again, the horn section was a perfect fit. Love that Bari Sax. In retrospect, although it took three years, mainly because I never felt that my guitar skills were on par with what I could hear in my head that was needed for the cuts, I still am glad that I "went for it". I continue to work on the technical aspect of playing this instrument and figure I'll never really be where I want to be. Most of the guitar greats that I have had the good fortune to meet, have been very polite, unassuming and genuine. I appreciate them - and their influence on me, and all other aspiring artist. Music can be a great medium to communicate feelings and experiences. Personally, I prefer artists who respect music enough to not use it as a tool for vulgarity, violence or suggestibility. But then, I guess, I'm from the romantic Old Fart school, at heart. I hope you enjoy the CD Bobby Lee Murphy
