简介
"Mosaic". The word is often used to describe the Canadian cultural landscape, and nowhere more truly than in Toronto. In one city, the entire world seemingly converges, weaving the tapestry of tastes, colours, sounds, and ideologies that serve as the backdrop for a band like KOZEN to emerge. What makes KOZEN such a musical rarity is that the band consists mainly of metal and gospel musicians - an odd and unlikely combination. Formerly a solo project by founder Maxwell Kozen, the band began to take full form in 2014, at which point the group began to arrange, rehearse, and record songs for what would become 2016s Swimming To The Stars, a two-EP project highlighting the heavier and softer sides of the band. "Swimming To The Stars" would be split in half, side "A" representing the heavier, metal-inspired side of the band, and side "B" representing Maxwell's softer, acoustic guitar-driven singer-songwriter tendencies. The band weaves genres in and out of each other while delivering instrumental performances worthy of the wide-eyed stares of disbelief they often meet. Whether it's the groove-heavy drumming, lightning-fast slap bass, dreamlike chord progressions, spiralling guitar solos, or sudden shifts from melodic crooning to guttural screams, KOZEN is a band of musicians who take pride in their craft and revel in the joy of simply playing well.
