Here it is, the long awaited single "Another man's fall" from John McMinn's forthcoming 2012 solo album. Amongst many others he has worked with Colin Hodgkinson (Alexis Korner/ Whitesnake/ Jan Hammer), Ted McKenna (Alex Harvey band), Frank Diez (Eric Burdon band), The Applejacks, US bands Shanghai Gesture and The Suspects and session guitarist Amos Garrett. Recent work includes sessions with L.A. based label Now Again records, where John played Hammond on Mr Chop's new album "Switched on". John discusses his current solo album work: What did you want this album to sound like? "Well, the aim was to get the retro feel of early 70's Free, Spooky Tooth and similar bands. That 'feel' is rarely seen in today's music as 1970's production involved fewer track layers and relied on the musician's integrity and skill with their instruments rather than 2012's musical trickery". "My new album evokes this approach; you can hear all the instruments in there such as the Hammond, Rhodes, the Leslie's and wailing guitars as oppose the the 'wall of sound' too often heard nowadays. It's been said before by many, but it can never be underestimated how important it is to know when not to play a specific instrument in a song, less is more". Your biggest musical influence? "My love of the band 'Free' is probably the main driving influence behind my work, they were so lyrical and their songs always had soul and structure. Paul Kossoff was and is undoubtedly the biggest individual influence on my music, simply inspiring and poetic, he communicated through his guitar". Other influences? "Another great band Spooky Tooth, plus Mountain, Cream, Traffic, you get the picture". The single "Another man's fall", what's it about? "The crumbling economy of Europoe; It describes a situation where someone gets money off the state/ government for pretending they had an accident". John McMinn's solo album is due out October 2012.
