In the two years since the release of their self-titled/self-produced EP, studio workhorses, Hotel Radio, have been refining their unique sound with their second effort, “Our Midnight.” And their transformation is anything but subtle.

Opening with “Hold the Line,” the band starts off with reserved energy – a layered, rhythmic bed of metronomic guitars and keyboards lays the foundation for Patrick Meagher’s floating vocal line. The title track, “Our Midnight,” has the clearest statement of intent, from the pounding drum hook building to the epic chorus. The band goes for broke and it’s worth the journey. The most surprising tracks on the EP will surely be the dance-club-worthy anthem, “Lone Star Brigade” and the slow, groovy hook of the closing track, “Goodbye,” which could surely be the next Jimmy Buffet-esque barroom sing-a-long.
