"One drummer drumming is enough / Two turtledoves is two too many, love"...with fun lines like this you'd think this were a novelty song but it's quite sincere and carries a serious message of filtering through the bling and finding the real holiday spirit. Jim Brunberg wrote a Christmas song that had too many verses. So whenever he had an artist in the studio, he asked them to sing a verse and play an instrument on the song. This resulted in the unlikely but stirringly beautiful duet of Kristen Hersh and Lara Michelle, Linda Hornbuckle and Art Alexakis, Tony Furtado playing with Los Lobos' Steve Berlin, and some other interesting combinations. It's a joyously cheesy, feelgood tune.
