The new Yo Mama EP includes keyboardist Hofmann’s song ‘Tumbling Dice’, as well as two of Montreuil’s co-written songs, telling the stories of two women; Ramona – a sexy, precocious world traveller, and Isobel – a confused corporate climber who struggles to realize her joy really is in life itself. Montreuil has yet to confess as to whether her lyrics are fictional or fact … the listener can’t help but wonder how much her experiences inspire the eventual stories her songs recount. The EP is rounded out with a well-known cover of Leiber and Stoller’s ‘Hound Dog’ – Montreuil opens the disc with a spine-tingling a-cappella intro of ‘You aaaain’t ……. nothing but a …’, followed firmly with a bawdy version of this classic, sung in her signature raspy blues voice, reminiscent of Big Mama herself.
