"Arghh..this horn is still out of adjustment. I guess I'LL be the one adjusting from now on." I found Dino at his girlfriend's house in West Germany. He paced the floor, playing and tinkering with his new found horn, the tárogató; a Hungarian "wooden soprano sax" that is featured heavily in the Hotel Suites. I asked him about the new CD and where the theme derived. "What do you do when you don't have the time or energy to find a studio in each city? You end up recording wherever you find an hour anyway. So that's what I did!! You wouldn't believe the places I set up shop. With just a laptop, a mic, and some headphones, I recorded in backstage in a Romanian night club, also in endless hotels and other backstages, a rented apartment in LA, a jet, a parked bus outside an Atlanta diner, in parks, onstage at Radio City Music Hall, a Spanish Bullring, an old Church, in the green room minutes before a show. Wherever I could find time to record outside of my schedule with Mr. Cohen, I would turn on the red light and chirp a little. Of course you hear all sorts of odd sound artifacts in the recording, but that's what makes it sound so special. No other choice but to call it the Hotel Suites." It's the unofficial 2nd volume of songs written on the road while on tour with Leonard Cohen's most extended tour in History. A much brighter, more optimistic collections of songs, with some instrumentals pacing between the tracks and keeping the theme alive. While still with his trademark soft baritone voice and forest of woodwinds, this is Dino's most encompassing and finely detailed project to date. Landscapes unfold with each song.. Organic instrumentation takes foreground. Soft electronic pulses lay the foundation. It reflects the reality and means of modern traveling; jets, buses, modern hotels transport you to cities while the experience of humanity takes center focus. It even provides a unexpected sonic surprise at the end of the project. No, I'm not going to tell. The Hotel Suites features some of the world's premiere artists doing what they do best. Highlights include Javier Mas on Spanish "Archi-Laud" guitar, Bob Metzger on Pedal Steel, UK's Hattie Webb on Harp and vocal, Songwriting Legend Leonard Cohen on Indian Murchang (a first for Leonard to record this for another artist), and premiere solo artists Sharon Robinson and Dania Koenig on vocals.
