Quiet Entertainer made a name for himself with his exciting live shows and his ambient instrumental hip-hop music, but Intelligent Design represents a stylistic departure, as he moves into creating electronic music with fewer samples and a greater emphasis on crafting songs. Instrumental hip-hop is a genre plagued with albums that are little more than collections of short snippets of beats, but Quiet Entertainer is doing his part to change this. DJ Shadow (whom Quiet Entertainer calls “the ultimate artist” on his website) is one of the most talented musicians in instrumental hip-hop in regards to creating full songs, and his influence is evident throughout this album. The songs on Intelligent Design come off as coherent compositions with meaningful melodic development and thematic material.
