THE MODERN ELECTRIC Garrett Komyati – Vocals, Piano, Guitar Matthew Childers – Bass, Drums Michael O’Brien – Drums Holden Laurence – Guitar The Modern Electric is a cinematic pop band of four Cleveland suburbanites in search of a life that’s just like in the movies. Compelled by heartbreak and the power of cinema, they began writing songs to the ones they love while still in high school. As a way to soundtrack the upcoming year, the band will be releasing a new song from their sophomore album, Original Motion Picture Soundtrack, every month starting in January. Given the band’s strong relationship to film, they will also produce and release a visual counterpart to each track. Recorded on 2 inch tape in Austin, TX and produced by Mike McCarthy (Spoon, Heartless Bastards), the full length album will be out in June. Equally influenced by Spoon, ELO and David Bowie as they are Annie Hall and The Graduate, their music plays out like a soundtrack to a coming-of-age film about chasing crushes, surviving loneliness, and finding close friends. Simply put, this is not a band interested in the trendy sounds of the year. Like a favorite mixtape, the band’s timeless sound transitions from heart-felt acoustic ballads to hook-driven pop symphonies all while maintaining a signature, melodic focus. Garrett Komyati (lead vocals/piano/guitar), Matthew Childers (bass/drums), Holden Laurence (guitar), and Michael O’Brien (drums) treat each passionate performance as if it may be the last; sweeping audiences away with their arena-ready epics. In 2009 the alternative pop band debuted their full length, self-titled album The Modern Electric, which won “Album of The Year” in their hometown’s alternative newspaper Cleveland Scene Magazine. They’ve since toured the midwest and performed at CMJ, SXSW, and WMC. With each song, The Modern Electric and their audience share in a search for the cinematic life.
