Bill was born in a family that played music locally in his town. He was on stage with his grandfather at the age of 5 years old. He used to sit on state with the Stoneman Family and played a plastic guitar with "Pop" Stoneman. He had the same band in Maryland for 18 years called the Stardells. In 1983 they won the Dodge Wrangler Country Showdown in Maryland and won a customized Wrangler Van and a trip to appear on the Grand Old Opry for the finals. They were the opening act in Maryland for all the big ticket performers that came to town for many years. In 1992 Bill moved to Jacksonville Florida.
