简介
One of several things that make this album stand out is the fact that all the big names on it are sidemen, while the featured vocalist is a relative unknown. Your attention will be drawn to Jerry Wicentowski's outstanding vocal performances on this, his first solo album. His high clear voice carries on the tradition of the pioneers in bluegrass, especially Bill Monroe and Red Allen, but he is far from a pale imitation or carbon copy of those early greats. Jerry's performances here have uniqueness, depth of feeling, and most important, respect and reverence for the music. The twelve tracks on the album represent a skillful blending of classics and thoughtfully chosen new material. Traditional numbers include Live and Let Live, Whose Shoulder Will You Cry On, Little Maggie, Dream of the Miner's Child, and Mary of the Wild Moor. The seven newer songs in this project come from outside the bluegrass mainstream, though three of the writers will be familiar. The Iris DeMent song Sweet is the Melody may be best known to bluegrass fans, while Robin and Linda Williams penned They All Faded Away. Two songs were written by the talented Tim O'Brien, who sings tenor on all but Jerry's three solo tracks. The title song, Lucky Break was co-written by one of Jerry's favorite duets Barry and Holly Tashian. Jerry is joined by an outstanding group of musicians including Byron Berline on fiddle, Andy Statman on mandolin, Scott Vestal on banjo, and Mark Hembree on bass. Thanks for reading and hope you have the opportunity to listen!
