Formed in 1993 in Nassau, The Bahamas Edison Sumner and VOP is a dynamic independent gospel chorale whose purpose has always been about leading God’s people in worship and bringing deliverance to people who are hurting. The group is amongst the leading gospel groups in The Caribbean and Edison has been regarded as the pioneer of the modern gospel music era in The Bahamas. They were blessed to be one of the very first recipients of the Bahamas gospel music’s Marlin Awards as well as one of the first recipients of the Bahamas Artistic Performers (BAP) Awards. Edison Sumner and VOP came out strong in 1993 and revolutionized the gospel music industry in The Bahamas at a time when people were looking for something different. They introduced a new sound, new visual concepts to their stage and a new level of ministry that was not all about performance, but about ministry with substance. They were able to set a very high standard for others to follow and they continue to maintain that standard today. VOP has been ministering in song together for sixteen (16) consecutive years without fail. Because VOP has been the standard bearers, they have mentored other gospel groups into existence in The Bahamas.However, VOP became more renowned for their incredible anointing to change the atmosphere when they step into a room and bring their audience to a place of worship in God, something they all take very seriously. Edison has always said that he was never interested in just being the best gospel group around, but he was only concerned about being effective at what they did. Hence, the name Edison Sumner and VOP has become synonymous with praise and worship.VOP has travelled to United States and within The Bahamas with their music ministry. They expect to expand their horizon to begin taking their ministry throughout the Caribbean, North America and indeed the world.Edison Sumner and VOP have recorded three (3) live albums since 1993; however only 2 of them were released: “If I Knew Then” and “Dwell in our Worship”. They have been blessed to share the same stage and open for other gospel artists such as Micah Stampley, Hezekiah Walker, BeBe Winans and Dr. Cindy Trimm.VOP consists of a diversity of 15 anointed Christian singers and musicians from various churches around Nassau, The Bahamas, most of whom are worship leaders and minstrels in their local churches. Edison himself is the Minister of Worship and Fine Arts at his church Word of Truth Ministries International in Nassau.
