简介
“Dave Gunning is the next big thing in the True North of Song, an artist as compelling, as assured and attentive to every nuance of the writing and performing process as Lightfoot, Cockburn and Stan Rogers before him.” TORONTO STAR Dave Gunning has been acclaimed as one of Canada’s best up-and-coming singer-songwriters. A charismatic performer, Dave is known for infusing his shows with his own brand of humourous tales and touching commentary on the everyday, bringing a new vibrance, energy and life to his heartfelt songs. Blending sensitive folk and innovative arrangements to his original and traditional songs, Gunning is rapidly building a solid audience fan base wherever he performs. Dave continues to tour throughout Canada, the United States, the United Kingdom and Denmark performing at special festivities, house concerts, songwriter’s venues, theatres and at numerous international festivals and showcasing events. Additionally, Dave has performed as special guest with good friend and country star, George Canyon on his Canadian tours (fall 2006 and Christmas 2005) and with INXS at the Halifax Metro Centre (May 2006). Recently, picking up two 2008 East Coast Music Awards for Male Artist of the Year and Folk Recording of the Year for his sixth recording, “House For Sale”, Gunning has solidified his place as a respected songwriter and performer. Dave’s latest release, “House For Sale” excels in demonstrating his solid songwriting ability and is enriched with his smooth vocals and acoustic guitar backed with elements of bass, percussion, mandolin, dobro and hammond. Among its highlights are co-writes/duets with Canadian country singer, George Canyon and Newfoundland’s songsmith, Ron Hynes. ” These Roads” longs for home, with a wonderfully rich instrumental sound drawing you along the roads that will all eventually lead back to love. “Hard Workin’ Hands” extols the virtues of hard work while also maintaining a sense of self when the work day ends, which is mirrored by Gunning’s youthful voice … musically, it maintains clarity of tone while creating a complex and well-crafted interplay of lines. This album encapsulates what we want out of the best albums of the genre: each song flowing along narrative and musical lines with never a word or note out of place”. EXCLAIM With an extensive catalogue of original material, Dave has released six award winning recordings, his latest project “House For Sale” (released October 2007), “Dave Gunning Christmas” (2006), “Two-Bit World" (2004), “Dave Gunning Live" (2002), “Caught Between Shadows" (2000) and “Lost Tracks" (1996). Dave’s original song,” Here She Comes a Running” (from his CD, Caught Between Shadows) was featured on the "Atlantic Standards 2” CD release (distributed by Warner Music) celebrating some of the finest musical talent from Eastern Canada. His touching rendition of the classic “ A Dream That Can Last” debuts on the two CD compilation "Borrowed Tunes 2: A Canadian Tribute to Neil Young” (Universal Music) with a variety of Canada’s top recording artists including, the Barenaked Ladies, Raine Maida, Tom Cochrane, Ron Sexsmith, Liam Titcomb, and Finger Eleven to name a few. On a lighter front, Dave also appeared in two episodes of the hit TV show “Trailer Park Boys” playing the role of the forest ranger (summer 2007) broadcast on the Showcase Network. Gunning’s 2006 Christmas release, fittingly titled, Dave Gunning Christmas features the popular original track, “Daddy’s Beer,” (co-written with Jamie Robinson) which became a huge hit with fans who discovered the sweet, silly holiday tale when Gunning played it on Canyon’s 2005 Christmas tour and 2006 fall tour. The song has gone on to become a favorite with country radio programmers and listeners during the holiday season. 2005 marked a very successful year for Dave, picking up two awards for his recording, Two-Bit World - ECMA Folk Recording of the Year and a second Award from Music Nova Scotia in the same category. Dave’s co-write, “Prince of Pictou” (co-written with Jamie Robinson) was awarded First Place Winner in the Folk category in the International Acoustic Music Awards and received an honorable mention in the USA Songwriting Competition. Gunning’s previous recordings, “Caught Between Shadows” and “Lost Tracks”, were also nominated in the Roots/Traditional category at the ECMA’s in their respective years. The support was enhanced when his video for his song “Here She Comes a Running” from his CD, “Caught Between Shadows” was picked up by CMT Canada’s Celtic Country program. In 2002, Dave had the incredible experience of performing on a 22-date sold-out tour with Canadian music legend Stompin’ Tom Connors. The pairing proved to be a good one, as the spicy East Coasters were a great mix. That same year, Gunning released the album Live, and picked up three Music Nova Scotia Awards for Producer, Engineer and Recording Studio of the Year (for his studio, Riverfront Studio’s). In 2003, the accolades continued as he was awarded the prestigious Music Nova Scotia Musician of the Year Award. Engaging and captivating as a solo performer, as a duo, trio or with his band, Dave has the magnetic gift of captivating audiences by painting pictures with his compelling storytelling, lyrics and musical arrangements. On the platform of international recognition, Dave continues to tour in support of his latest release, “House for Sale”. For more information visit, www.davegunning.com
