简介
"Inca Wind" is a collection of guitar instrumental pieces that I have written and recorded over the years. I have always loved the incredible scope that the guitar offers in terms of sound and mood. I have been playing guitar now for almost forty years and thought it was about time to put my stuff out there for you to hear. On this album you will hear some of my 12-string solo work - Razz, a piece about a racehorse learning to become a showjumper and Dusi, a piece about the Dusi Canoe Marathon between Pietermaritzburg and Durban in South Africa. The title track itself is 12-string based in dropped B and F# tuning and is, like Dusi, a movement piece. It was inspired by a book I had that was full of colour plates about the Incas from ancient times to the present, which made me think about the rise and fall of a civilisation. Hopefully this comes across in this piece. Atlantic is also 12-string based with a dropped D tuning with lead guitar and fretless bass. Dirt Road Jam is a reminiscence about the strolling Zulu guitar players on the farmlands of the Natal Midlands in South Africa, where I was born. Another movement piece is Summit Fever/Echo Vista/Reflections, which is about the excitement of a mountain climb, the view from the top and the memories afterwards. Personally I think the Echo Vista part has some of my best lead guitar playing. Satch Ferrari is a smokin' rockin' interpretation of Joe Satriani's thoughts if he were to find himself behind the wheel of the Italian Stallion. Another piece that I have also included some of my work in a more jazzy, clean style of electric guitar playing: Puppy Love is a gentle tumble of guitar and fretless bass and Mystery Walk breezes along like an autumn evening. The only 6-string acoustic guitar piece is Kaalvoet (Barefoot) - a jaunty little jog with a touch of Ragtime. The album ends with a beginning: herald is my version of a guitar fanfare, ushering in a beautiful new day.
