Cantus Firmus brings sound exciting aspects for those who know little about the origins of western music.

The group has its focuses primarily on the vocal repertoire and seeks in the performance of the melodic lines and the articulation of the text and improvement in the interpretation of medieval music (1125 to 1300) and the whole Renaissance period (1400 to 1550) going even to the 'early Baroque' (around 1600).

This album presents some works of sacred vocal music from the medieval monodies (around 1150) until the Renaissance polyphonic Mass (1550). The album shows the several forms of articulation and sound, contrasting forms of popular songs with instruments (Mui Grandes Noit'e dia) with the artistic discourse of polyphonic music (In te Domine), seeking to transport the listener to a time in which vocal music was treated with the utmost refinement and extensive melodic rhythmic complexity.

In particular we have here the performance of the Missa Brevis by Giovanni Pierluigi da Palestrina (1525-1594), one of the greatest composers in the history of Western music who composed more than 300 motets and a hundred masses and madrigals.
