简介

Alaskan composer, Emerson Eads set the ordinary of the catholic mass, the poetry of his brother, Evan Eads, and the words of Pope Francis from his diary as a young seminarian. The composer sought to create an architecture where the “voice of the innocent” can resonate with those who have suffered before them, and for those who still suffer oppression “until justice rolls down.” Soprano, Tess Altiveros; mezzo-soprano, Toby Newman; lyric tenor, Barry Banks, and bass-baritone, David Miller, join the University of Notre Dame’s Concordia Choir and Ritornello Orchestra for a world premiere, live concert recording of Emerson Eads’ Mass for the Oppressed. Written in response to the release of four Native Alaskans, known as The Fairbanks Four, from prison after eighteen years of wrongful incarceration. They were released in December of 2015 with no chance to seek any reparations from the state of Alaska. Also included on the recording, is Alaskan soprano, Jaunelle Celaire, and bass-baritone, Emorja Roberson, singing with the combined forces for an arrangement by Eads, of the traditional African-American spiritual, He’s Got The Whole World In His Hands. The final track on this recording is a setting by Emerson Eads of the De Profundis (Psalm 130). Soloists include singers from the department of Sacred Music at Notre Dame. Sales of the album will support the Alaska Innocence Project that was instrumental in securing the release of the Fairbanks Four.
