简介
Chicago tenor titan and composer David Boykin resurfaces from the undergound to dazzle us with the latest results from his experiments (including a foray into hip hop lyricism) with his new release Ultrasheen. The most devoted fans and Chicago residents may have previewed his latest exploits live in person or on his limited printings of cdrs documenting his live shows. For most of us, however, this first commercial studio produced release since 47th Street Ghost (2001), is a long awaited follow up. Boykin is joined once again by Downbeat critic poll rising star flutist Nicole Mitchell. Stallwart bassist Josh Abrams and adventurous pianist James Baker also remain from previous outings. The rhythm section on this record is rounded out literally and figuratively, however, by a different drummer - Mike Reed. Mike Reed (as are all of the members of the group) is a composer and bandleader of his own projects. Most recently the group People, Places, And Things with recordings on the label 482.
