Bongani Mavuso, born on September 29, 1976, is a Radio Senior Producer/ Presenter (Ukhozi FM), Entrepreneur and Poet. In 1996, he went to the University of Zululand where he studied and completed a three-year degree: the Bachelor of Arts in Communication, Information and Technology. He then registered for an Honours degree in Social Sciences at the University of KwaZulu-Natal (Howard College). As a broadcaster, he is presenting Ukhozi Fm’s current affairs show Abasiki Bebunda on weekdays and also present the station’s leading current affairs show Ezangempelasonto on weekends. As a Poet, he published anthologies in isiZulu: Inhlansi (2006), Inxeba Lembongi (Editor: 2007), Izintombi Zengcuce (Editor: 2008, prescribed at UNISA), Isivivane Sokusa (Contributor: 2007), Iklwa (2008), Zibuyela Ezimpandeni (Editor: 2009), Inkasa Yenjula (2011) and Ikloba (2013). He has now published his new poetry anthology entitled Izimbali Zemfolozi. In 2008, he was invited by the South African Embassy in the Netherlands to present a paper on the role of poetry in promoting South Africa’s heritage. He also presented a paper at the International Summit on Traditional Leadership at the ICC, Durban (2008). In 2009, he performed at Poetry Africa festival organised by the University of KwaZulu-Natal. On Ukhozi Fm, he initiated a poetry slot (Back to My Roots) which has been running since 2005 every Friday between 10h30 and 11h00. The slot falls into Dudu Khoza’s leading programme: Jabul’ Ujule. In 2005, he started a column which published poetry for 4 years on South Africa’s leading Zulu weekend newspaper Ilanga Langesonto. He now has a poetry column on the leading daily newspaper Isolezwe. He also had a column on Ilanga LeTheku where he wrote poetry articles that focused on the artistic works of African poets.
