简介
Under The Starling Host was our attempt to capture the new music we were making before an upcoming six month hiatus, we recorded right at the end of a three week tour and hopefully it shows in our musicianship and the overall feeling of our band together. Musically, this album is faster and more "punk" sounding, hopefully capturing the blend of influences that we've come to the table with most accurately: leonard cohen, chumbawamba, ballast...(it's a very long list actually). We are constantly learning new ways to express this on our odd assortment of instruments: accordion, washboard, banjo, mandolin, washtub bass, and as far as I know we are the first band to go in these directions with anything close to this set up. Lyrically we have focused on social themes where in the past we have focused on mystical and ecological ones. We touch on the paranoid mind state induced by living in a surveilance society, the creeping malnutrition and hopelessness of the life of exploited peasant farmers, the dull danger of urban youth culture. As always our goal to make music that is somehow both mournful and danceable.
