简介
Pakalana was written in honor of a dear family friend, after my mother presented me with a pakalana lei to break the news of his passing. The sweet fragrance of that lei filled my room, and after five days this mele presented itself to me as I was playing my 'ukulele. It describes the bittersweet sadness of remembering a loved one, with a response to "stop your tears" from the one whose memory remains a beautiful fragrance in the heart and mind. The lyrics are also symbolic of a deep love that lasts long after the initial fragrance and excitement of infatuation has faded. Mahalo to my 'ohana and friends for all their love and support - especially Mom who gave me my first piano lesson at age 3 and taught me that music comes from within. Ti and K, you have walked with me through the most challenging chapters of my life; you are part of my breath and soul. Credit to Adam Bediamol for the 'ukulele performance, and to the many mentors who have encouraged me over the years to share my music, you have been my inspiration and guides. Mahalo.
