Travis Hearne, a dedicated Christian and accomplished guitarist, felt led to create a music ministry that reached out to today's youth. He had watched many of his own friends' lives spiral downward and felt the need to go beyond the safety and comfort of the church's walls to reach out to those so in need of something to believe in beyond themselves. He asked his brother, Cannon, also a dedicated Christian and extensively-trained drummer, to join him. Cannon exchanged his raucous, intense drumming style for the complexities of acoustic percussion-- congas, bongos, djembe, and shaker. Travis then asked Austin Curry, also a devout Christian and long-time Christian musician and producer of theatrical productions, to join Keilah. Austin's riveting voice and unusual bass runs completed the group. Travis and Austin began honing each other's musical compositions and Keilah ultimately won the GMA Song of the Year Award, which recognized both the authenticity and quality of Keilah's message. Each member's contribution to the style and character of Keilah is uniquely his own, but all three share a unified sense of purpose, to bring God's words of love, reassurance, forgiveness, and salvation to those who feel alone, those who stand doubting and unsure about their life and reason for being, and those burdened by hopelessness. This is God's gift, and this is Keilah's message.
