简介

This collection of songs came pretty quickly. For the thirty-something years I've been writing music, usually good ideas come in short spurts; I'll rarely sit down and try to force something out. When an idea comes, a new song is often pretty easy to finish within an hour. Sometimes I'll spend a few days tweaking lyrics, but for the most part I can write two or three new songs in the span of a few days. Unfortunately, years can go by before these creative bursts happen again. In 2015 and 2016, I started using Mixcraft music recording software and it's been an incredible tool for my work. As a multi-instrumentalist, I can easily put together a few tracks of drums, guitar, vocals and some percussion which has sped up my writing process. I wrote "Feather," and "Lucy" in 2015 and knew I'd hit on a much more aggressive sound. Heading into the new year, I wrote four other tracks and had them finished within a couple of weeks. The final version of "Lucy" includes additional drum track by the talented John DiMarzio. The only 'old' song included partially here is "Black Boots Revisited." The original "Black Boots" was written around fifteen years ago. I recorded it with Jeremiah Tucker in Arkansas (West Memphis) and released it on my album "The Place Between Moving and Standing Still" in 2006. Out of the couple of hundred songs I've written, "Black Boots" continually gets the most attention of anyone who has heard my music, so it seemed interesting to try and write a sequel. For this new track, "Black Boots Revisited," I wrote new lyrics and an arrangement that is similar to the original but brings the story of a rebellious adolescent into the new millennium as he still struggles to express himself through his life choices (and, more trivially: his wardrobe). "Love Fire" is my most dancey song yet. The hand clap and low bass line are reminiscent of Evelyn "Champagne" King's "Love Come Down" from 1982, combined with a mixture of influences such as Beck, U2, and Garbage. This formula is consistent throughout all songs on the record. I hope you enjoy my new batch as l continue to grow as an artist and performer.
