The Back-Step Band was formed in 1986 by Chester McMillian. Backstep has played and continues to play, all over the country at various festivals and fiddler's conventions. Though the band has had several configurations over the past 28 years, it has consistantly remained a band in demand. Currently the band consist of Nick McMillian on Fiddle, Chester McMillian on Guitar, Michael Motley on Banjo and Buck Buckner on Bass and vocals. Chester recently received the North Carolina Brown Hudson award for his lifetime dedication of carrying on the music tradition. That is exactly what this band does. Back-Step carries on the traditional sound of old time music found in the foothills along the North Carolina - Virginia border.
