Born on October 14, 1994, Remi Freyo is a 22 year old self-taught producer and songwriter hailing from the DMV who got his start in music at the ripe age of 9. He recalls writing raps and poems and recording them on a headset microphone paired with the free DAW, Audacity. Remi credits his older sister for introducing him to the world of Urban music. On days that she refused to play with him, typically choosing to watch MTV music videos instead, having nothing better to do he joined her and became exposed to the R&B & Hip-Hop acts of the early 2000s. He cites “50 Cent, Kanye West, Usher, Marvin Gaye, Llyod, and Kid Cudi” as being some of his many early influences. Having always had a deep fascination with technology and invention he remembers being quicker to purchase the latest audio equipment rather than the newest pair of Jordans. This fascination is what led him to spend the next 10 years investing in audio equipment and learning the ins and outs of music production, audio engineering, and mixing. Remi is additionally fascinated with psychology, astrology, and “any other disciplines that help us understand each other and the world around us.” As Remi matured he noticed that he was slightly more captivated by R&B than Hip-hop. This may be partially due to the fact that the first album he ever owned, which he stole from his sister, was Usher’s 8701. He loved the smooth demeanor of the R&B singers from the early 2000s and their positive lyrics about their relationships with women. Having had a strained relationship with his father during his early childhood, Remi attributes his early successes to the strong women in his life that looked over him, namely his older sister, mother, and grandmother. An introvert at heart, Remi spent a lot of his time growing up alone in deep thought or scouring the internet trying to find answers to the millions of questions circulating through his mind. This was the beginning of his path to self-discovery and at it’s essence “The Inner Space EP” is a project about the journey to self-realization. While this journey is usually something one attempts on their own, Inner Space is a love story about two individuals exploring the depths of their own souls and that of each other’s simultaneously. In the Summer of 2013 Remi founded PLUG, LLC ( www.theoutlet.org ). A company he started originally with the intention of building it into a platform for hosting and distributing his own creative works and that of his closest friends, but quickly evolved into a brand that empowers young entrepreneurs and aspiring creatives of all backgrounds. Remi has described his latest EP, “The Inner Space EP” as an attempt to summarize the past 3 years of his life, a time when he dropped out of college and became a full-time entrepreneur, battling depression and living on his mother’s couch. The best moments of this EP reveals the heart and inner thoughts of a young black man opening up and allowing himself to become completely vulnerable for his audience. He considers “Inner Space” to be a genre that he created as well as a metaphysical place that one can go to “get away from all the negativity and **** that is happening in the world.” The EP definitely creates a peaceful, calm and serene soundscape. Having produced the entire project himself and crediting 4 specific relationships as the inspiration for the tape, Inner Space seems to be the journal of a young self-starter documenting the road to attraction and intimacy using personal experience as a solid foundation.
