简介
After a 10 year absence, Portugal's Question of Time Records returns in 2012 with brand new vinyl and digital releases. The label was a hugely influential house and techno imprint in the mid 1990s, with everyone from Sven Vaeth to Carl Cox, Laurent Garnier, Mr. C, Tony Humphries, and DJ Pippi having supported its groundbreaking releases in the early days. The label's first release of 2012 comes from QoT label boss and long-serving Portuguese DJ hero J. Daniel. The 'Change It' EP features six wildly different mixes of Daniels' new single (four tracks will be released on vinyl). Two of the mixes come from the co-founder of the new QoT - ambient house techno experimentalist Aqob. Overall the package is an entirely absorbing, intelligent and unique club EP that is impossible to categorise. It firmly sits outside the realms of today's club trends. The Original Extended Mix of 'Change It' is a psychologically primed house cut, full of dark twisting euphoric moods. With moments of acid, melodic techno, and underground house the track is a pure, honest and spiritual dancefloor trip. The track is accompanied by a music video from director Terry Church. Taking the groove in an entirely new direction, the slowly evolving, deep and haunting Aqob Dust Remix is an elevating and soulful house journey. Filled with otherworldly sounds that captivate the soul (Aqob approaches his music from a theoretical, mind altering perspective), the track's continuously evolving melodies and bass notes are like a rich, vivid dream. The more aggressive Zorbinsky Remix brings a driving techno edge to Change It. Retaining a little of the original's melodic structure, the track whips up a dancefloor frenzy thanks to its pounding techno rhythms, rough electronic sounds and ever-rising synthesizer sweeps. Clever drum breaks and one completely unexpected breakdown keep feet guessing right until the very end. Fans of early Carl Craig should check this mix. The rolling percussion and wonky acid house on the Park Street Communications Mix will entice Ricardo Villalobos fans and DJs who appreciate a weird or psychedelic slant to their house music. With organic drums, 303-styled elements, hypnotic synthesizers, and one huge raw acid drop, it is perhaps the most experimental dancefloor mix on offer. Digital ONLY Aqob's Heartland Remix is both trippy and beautiful. With micro snippet vocal samples layered over a soft and delicate lead, the music typically moves the mind and the body. Hard stabs and syncopated percussion move the cut through various stages - moments of club awe and melancholia sit side by side with warped ambience and dissonance. Digital ONLY The final version of 'Change It', the aptly titled A Question of Love Remix, is the perfect end to the package and perhaps a perfect end to a night out. Happy melodies, and a rolling bass groove keep the track firmly in the light. A delicate lead, sweeping pads, and outer space sound FX give the track a classic techno feeling. With such a different take on house and techno, and six other releases already queued up for 2012, QoT is set to make a dramatic and welcomed return to Europe's DJ scene. Watch Video Clip J.
