简介
The inspiration for this piece came from several different sources. The most influential, and responsible for the title, is the philosophy of John Muir (Naturalist and father of the National Parks) who recalled the Rockies as God’s first temple. The music is composed to reflect a journey through our nations many natural environments and the beauty and magnificence they behold. The inspiration for the vocal part, aside from what was just mentioned, are the choral works by Karl Jenkins. The vocal part for his piece “Adiemus” was written in the idea that the voice was just another instrument in the assembly. This idea led him to write the lyrics as simple and irrelevant syllables that don’t reflect any language. These sounds are composed to enhance the tone of the piece, the voice blending with the rest of the ensemble, becoming another instrument. I use this composition technique in order to have the choir add to the overall atmosphere of the piece, enhancing the musical theme, “The Temple”.
