简介
VERITAS is an alt-rock/synth-pop 5-piece band fronted by a male-female songwriting pair who bring the stage to life with their friction and produce "a ferocious live show" (epiTUNES.com). Their songs often explore the underbelly of the human psyche, but remain energetic and danceable. Band History: Adopting their name from the Latin word for "truth", the Seattle-and-Los Angeles-based alternative pop/rock band Veritas strives with each song to uncover the truths that lie within themselves and within the listener. Forged in the vibrant Los Angeles indie rock scene in early 2007, Veritas presents a world seen through the band's kaleidoscope of imagination and original point of view that is so roiling and mysterious it's easy to forget it's our world. Veritas is fronted by Will Moore (vocals/guitars) and Jamie Rose (vocals/keyboards) who are also responsible for crafting the band's quirky-yet-unforgettable songs. Moore, a British-trained musician and actor, spent the majority of his formative years moving around the U.S., Japan and United Kingdom developing his unique sense of style and musical sensibilities. Rose, whose captivating vocals and haunting keyboard tunes intertwine with Moore's memorable guitar riffs, embodies much of the band's artistic soul. Melodies are thrust forward on driving beats by bassist Thai "Thaiphoon" Dao (bass), an imposing on-stage figure whose Southern California-developed bass riffs belie a hint of his early upbringing in Kobe, Japan, and Chanel Summers (drums), one of that city's most creative, energetic, and inspired drummers known as much for her fiery delivery as for her on-stage antics (and for her former role as a developer of the Xbox video game system). Completing the fusion of this team is Andrea Jasek, a fixture on the Seattle music scene. Jasek's driving rock guitar riffs and intense stage presence solidifies a position as the other half to Moore's guitar. After developing its unique fusion of alt-rock, electronica, and experimentation suggestive of groups like Paramore, Muse and Shiny Toy Guns, Veritas relocated to Seattle in 2008 to begin work on "White Lies & Pretty Poisons", its forthcoming debut album, recorded at historic Avast Studios by producer Len Hotrum (Point One, The Crying Spell) and legendary engineer Kelly Gray (Queensryche, Candlebox), and mixed by Jules Hodgson of KMFDM fame. Drawing rave reviews and skyrocketing numbers of song plays from a loyal fan base and critics worldwide thanks to extensive networking on various Internet social websites, Veritas' music covers a diverse artistic panorama from the melodic to the dramatic. Anthems of pleasure and pain and explorations of the human psyche soar on seductive pop melodies and are conveyed by explosive guitar riffs, danceable rhythms and driving beats, while lush instrumental textures refine the sound. And the band's unique friction between its male-female fronting team is fraught with chemistry, which lends a scintillating dimension to the band's performances. Front man Will Moore's depth of emotion and dramatic style is countered by front woman Jamie Rose's punchy and sometimes ferocious delivery. Veritas strives to combine dynamic, heavy guitars that deliver a rock-worthy edge, with a manic quirkiness and a danceable synth-driven pop side, all wrapped up in thought-provoking lyrics that everyone can relate to. Songs are massive and very layered, both in the music and in the meanings behind the lyrics: behind riffs, behind beats. Listeners may find themselves focused on one thing and then discover that something else opens up that they didn't expect. This comes from an intensely deliberate discipline in both songwriting and performance. Nothing in a Veritas song is passing or fleeting, so no one listening to Veritas is allowed to let the music wash over them. The band's goal is to ensure their listeners feel something and relate to something because Veritas touches on the base of so many influences and ways of looking at an idea, but always hidden under an accessible sheen. Lyrically, Veritas is as playful as it is introspective, at times dark and brooding, yet ultimately cathartic: a magnetic amalgam of classic pop and rock sensibilities that blend the observational and the introspective with the majestic and the twisted. Taking cues from My Chemical Romance, Metric, and even The Smiths, many of Veritas' songs delve into sophisticated subject matter, exploring themes as diverse as online seduction, the sexual appeal of serial killers, and the lighter side of cosmetic surgery, yet the music tends to be melodic and pop-minded, never esoteric. As such, the band has often been compared to Shiny Toy Guns, a comparison that, for various reasons, was inevitable and unavoidable. Both bands are from Los Angeles, both feature a male and female lead singer, and both combine musical aggression with introspective, confessional lyrics. But Shiny Toy Guns isn't their only influence: reviewers have cited Lostprophets, The Pixies, Panic at the Disco, and 30 Seconds to Mars as musical brethren, while others have heard echoes of such diverse icons as Blondie, Queen and Duran Duran. With a manic and unpredictable, crowd-pleasing stage show, songs that combine quirky yet poignant, clever yet emotion-drenched lyrics with playful harmonies, wicked guitar riffs, and fun, catchy melodies, Veritas is poised for crossover success.
