Laura Hayes - Roots, Folk, and Wow, What a Voice! It all happened one night on the floor of my cheap apartment. I was lonesome, broke and strumming my guitar for comfort when the emotion of music really hit me. A dam of notes, lyrics and memories burst forth into my unique style. It was the real beginning and it felt amazing! I’ve been making music since I was a kid. I used to tag along to community events and family functions just waiting for a chance to get up and sing. I loved it and I knew I wanted that feeling to always be part of my life. I studied a few different instruments, listened to a range of musical styles, and took the advice of my voice coach (Grandpa), who gave me two singing lessons; “Sit tall in the saddle” and “Don’t sing through your nose”. Music was a constant companion and one of the only things that got me through my years as a broke college student. I entered competitions and sang covers and did whatever I could think of to keep my music dream alive. I made fans, but it wasn’t until I started writing my own tunes that I felt like I was making music. Many years later, at my husband’s urging...I packed along some home-spun CD’s to a performance at the Calgary Stampede. People loved my songs and the CD’s went like hotcakes. It was a wonderful eye-opener that led me to release my debut album “Road to Nowhere”. This summer, I released my second album..."Storyteller". It's an honest, earthy collection of original songs about life, love and lessons learned.
