Lipstick and Timbs has that feel of a mixtape but has the production value of an album. I was highly impressed by what Beanz had to offer in lyrics and her depiction of life for a woman with a growing celebrity. Her versatility, and the production, throughout the EP is what drew me in the most. A close comparison (in my opinion) would be Lil’ Kim, without all of the sexual talk. Her ferocity and female might on the mic were great to hear, especially in a time when female MCs aren’t seen as much except sexual objects.

For those who haven’t heard of Beanz yet, make sure to listen to her mixtape Explicit Lyricist and be sure to get that new EP, Lipstick and Timbs on May 26th (Lauryn Hill and this writer’s birthday). There’s no excuse as to why you can’t cop this EP as the record will be placed in over 60 stores nationwide and is sure to give Beanz a higher place in the Hip Hop ranks.
