简介

Bohuslav Martinu's striking "Sonatine for trumpet and piano", composed in 1956, only three years prior to his death, has finally achieved the recognition that it so dearly deserves as one of the outstanding contributions to this repertoire in the 20th Century. One of a small grouping of Martinu's compositions not set for a symphonic or larger chamber setting, it is a marvelous composition of unity of idea, spirited rhythmic development and Czech lyricism as well as a completely equal collaboration of the two instruments. This recording was made at Wilson Hall, James Madison University, Harrisonburg, VA in late 1977 when Messrs. Moulton and Kraus were Instructors in the Music Department. Kenneth Moulton is currently the President of Mantovani Production Associates, LLC and Producer of The Mantovani Orchestra, as well as performing as Principal Trumpet with the orchestra. Other activities have included, over a span of some 35 years since the recording of the present performance of Martinu's "Sonatine for Trumpet and Piano", teaching and conducting at both high school and university levels and much professional performing in the classical/orchestral, commercial and jazz idioms. Mr. Moulton is also the author of an article for the April 1982 edition of The Horn Call, the journal of The International Horn Society, entitled The Yogi Complete Breath (A Practical Application For The Brass Player). “Bravo Shouted the Audience…[when Andrew] Kraus delighted the audience with his virtuoso interpretations in Lemförde and inspired them to ‘bravo’ and ‘encore’…”. (Diepholzer Kreisblatt, August 12, 2012) Andrew Kraus, pianist, is known for his work as an accomplished and sensitive collaborator, working with singers and instrumentalists in concerts around the greater Washington, DC area as well as for his work coaching emerging performers. Mr. Kraus has performed as a soloist across the U.S., Europe, and Asia in recitals. In November 2012, Mr. Kraus released a recording, “Music from the Golden Age of the Piano”, available through CD Baby, with individual tracks available there as well as on iTunes and Amazon.com. He has been a performing participant in master classes with Peter Feuchtwanger and Leon Fleisher. In Spring 2009, he performed as the featured soloist with The Mantovani Orchestra on their Spring tour of China. In July 2013 he returned for his sixth year as a coach at Crittenden Summer Opera in Chevy Chase, MD. He is currently Adjunct Staff Pianist at Meredith College in Raleigh, NC and Adjunct Instructor of Piano at University of Mary Washington. He also maintains a piano studio in Rockville, Maryland. He is the author of a paper, "Integrating Tai-Chi/Qi-Gong and Piano Practice" published in the International Society for the Study of Tension in Performance Journal.
