Album of the Year 2008 Song of the Year 2008 (Party of One) Roots Rock Recording of the Year 2008 Roots Rock Vocalist of the Year 2007 & 2008 --Washington Area Music (Wammie) Awards Singer/songwriter Billy Coulter returned to the music scene in 2003 with fistful of honest rock ‘n roll. Backed by players from legendary regional bands, Coulter’s group performs rootsy pop that’s reminiscent of classic rock with refreshingly modern melodies and lyrics. Drawing on influences as varied as Bob Dylan and Johnny Cash to Mott the Hoople and Squeeze they’ve created an organic sound that seems familiar but is definitely new. In just a few short years, Coulter has risen to be among the top Washington-area bands. His well-received debut CD was produced in part by Steve Thoma (Fleetwood Mac, Glenn Frey) and by five-time Washington Area Music Award (Wammie) winner Marco Delmar. This album of instantly memorable songs earned him five 2005 Wammie nominations. One stand-out track, “Disconnected,” won the 2005 Mid-Atlantic Song Contest Rock category and was honored by the Billboard Song Contest as well. “Party of One,”a track from his upcoming CD, also recieved honors from the Mid-Atlantic contest.
