BILL KILPATRICK BIOGRAPHICAL SKETCH Born and raised in Southern California, Bill Kilpatrick began playing guitar at an early age, upon a suggestion from a boyhood friend who wanted to start a band. \"You learn to play guitar, and I\'ll learn to play drums\" is how he recalls his friend, Corey Wolfe, planting the seed in his head. A $25.00 nylon string guitar and lessons at Mr. B\'s Music got him on his way. Not too long afterwards, Bill realized he had a knack for arranging as well, and began putting ideas together for subsequent bands. Arranging led to song writing; \"Sort of backwards, I know...\" and Bill eventually found himself writing music in addition to arranging it. Bill\'s love of and fascination with the guitar continued as well, and he was one of the lucky students of the instrument who eventually found himself studying with Ted Greene. He took five years\' worth of lessons from the master in the 1980s. \"Ted was one of the most insightful, giving human beings I have ever met. He literally lived and breathed guitar. A handful of lessons with him opened the fretboard of the instrument up for me in a way that the previous 17 years hadn\'t even come close to doing. I know that I only gleaned a small percentage of Ted\'s knowledge of the guitar, yet he gave me enough to last a lifetime.\" It is safe to say that he has played music virtually all of his life. \"I\'ve been fortunate enough to play with some wonderful musicians over the years\", Bill says. Such as? Richard Carpenter, Greg Walker, Tim Heintz, Jewel (as a fledgling \"Can I sit in?\" young vocalist as she began to make her mark in the music world), Ronny Tutt, Kenny Park, Ralph Grierson, Jeff Kashiwa, Brooke Wilkes, Reggie McBride, Art Rodriguez, Paul Carman, Amy Grant, Michelle Pilar (Mrs. Larry Carlton), John Tesh, Ann Margaret, Roger Williams, The Oak Ridge Boys, Andy Griffith, Phil Stacey, Mandissa, Jon Peter Lewis... More recently, Bill has had a lifelong dream come to fruition: \"Having been a huge fan of the Progressive Rock band YES since the age of 17, I had always dreamed of meeting, and hopefully writing with, Jon Anderson, vocalist, lyricist, and I think it is safe to say driving force behind their incredible music.\" Through the amazing internet, that dream became a reality recently, and Bill has had the pleasure of meeting Jon, as well as orchestrating and writing several pieces with him. \"I don\'t know where any of it will go, but I\'m enjoying the heck out of the ride! Jon is an incredible person, a great artist and visionary; he is full of positive energy and great ideas. I\'m still a huge fan, which I have to sort of \'tuck away\' when we meet... I consider myself a very lucky musician, indeed.\" Releasing \"Mixed Bag\" has given Bill the taste for more. \"I thank my friend Kenny Park for having gently nudged me along to get this first album released. I\'ve got some songs that I wrote in the 70s that I\'m going to resurrect, and start the next album from there... and yep, I call \'em albums \'cause I\'m ~ as my kids would say ~ \'old school\'.\" In addition, Bill runs his own company, Quarternote Productions, working with various artists to lay down tracks for their albums & demo projects.
