This is the my first single, serving as an early teaser for the upcoming album: 'Floating in the Backseat While the World Goes By'. This song, as well as the concept for much of the album, is one that was written from a place of nostalgia; first love, the feeling of being an outcast, and the longing for feeling embraced and accepted, in hopes that things will get better, when we're older and free. It's funny how romantic even the most awkward aspects of adolescence can feel in hindsight. This track, to me, is kind of an homage to that. To loving someone, even though you don't really know how to yet.

Like most of my songs, I wrote it on an acoustic guitar, and I kind of had this idea that it would end up sounding like a Mazzy Star song or something like that. But when I showed it to a friend of mine, who was playing in my band at the time, he started singing these harmonies over it that gave it this old-school kind of feel, and we rolled with that. I ended up having to re-write the low, monotone vocal melody I had started with in favor of something louder and more raspy so that I could be heard over the rest of the band, and the song ended up being a nod to some soulful sounds of the 60's that I've come to adore, and happily take influence from.
