REVIEW - On Record, Reviews of the latest and best in Christian music records. By Peter Crescenti*. Goodlunas is the kind of artist the Christian music industry needs more of. This album tells us much about him: he’s a versatile musician, a persuasive vocalist, and a skillful lyricist who presents the Christian message convincingly without resorting to the usual cliches. Goodlunas makes rock music for mature listeners, music that is both cerebral and visceral. He achieves this by taking simple rock arrangements and seasoning them with jazz, blues, and latin influences. In fact, without sounding dated, much of this album is reminiscent of the best jazz-rock and progressive rock popular in the mid-1970’s. Take Me Away and Jordan, songs that open and close side one, are excellent examples of this. There are some surprises here too. Just when you think Goodlunas has nothing else to offer, he opens side two with Last Train, a rocking country blues. This tune is also one of the five songs that contain the album’s recurring theme: movement. Equally responsible for the LP’s quality is producer Steven Soles, a top-notch artist in his own right. Take Me Away is so good, in fact, that those who hear it will root for Soles and Goodlunas to team up again and again. *Peter Crescenti is a writer/editor who has been involved in both Christian and secular music. He has had features, interviews, and reviews published in 30 American and foreign publications, among them Contemporary Christian Music, and Rolling Stone. REVIEW - Word Records, Thomas Goodlunas & Panacea, Take Me Away: This guy is eclectic. Born of Lithuanian descent, raised in Colorado. Thomas has absorbed musical styles like a mop, in a word, he’s absorbed everything. From sweeping salsa to gyspy inspired Django Rhinehart, from Chicago blues, to 60’s horn inspired rock. Thomas Goodlunas is a fresh musical experience that combines ethnic music in an urban backdrop with a strong commitment to Christ. © 2017 Range Of Light Music. All Rights Reserved.
