Everyone is from somewhere. The musicians on this album were born and raised in communities all across Canada but at the time of recording were living in or deeply connected to the community of Guelph. Each track has a different collection of players demonstrating how well these musicians can work together to create music. The music is a collection of songs written over a 12 year period meaning the styles are quite varied. There are blues feel tunes like Happy Walkin, written for my endlessly supportive wife, and My Momma Donn Told Me Blues, which has nothing to do with what my mother told me, I just like the sound of the title! There are the up tempo tunes of Her Eagle Lodge, written about a woman who was passionate about the importance of following your dreams, and By Chance, inspired by the composer John Barnes Chance. Tight n’ Loosely has a funky jazz feel, Only You Know Why goes into the world of Bossa and was a tune that remained nameless for a few years before an audience member shouted out this title one night. Jason had spent some time working out some beautiful bass chord voicing on Waking for KLT which was on my first album so it was re-recorded for this album. One of my favourite past times on an airplane is to write music; Happy Walkin’, Tight n’ Loosely, Only You Know Why, Her Eagle Lodge and one of the most emotionally driven songs that I have ever written Leaving the London Fog were all written on airplanes.
