简介

King Fragrance is a Jamaican reggae singer born, Donald Keston King on October 14, 1979 in Connors District in the province of Orange Brooks in the Juan De Bolas Mountains, St. Catherine. His mother is Icelene Gordon, housewife, and his father, Vassell King, farmer. Growing up, Fragrance was mostly called by his pet name, Daele. King Fragrance’s musical talent was spotted at the age of three(3) while attending the Connors Basic School. Often, he was called upon by his family and neighbors to entertain them, especially after school. He was a big fan of radio personality and reggae artiste Mikey Dread and, in his childlike manner, Fragrance would often add his own style to Mikey's slangs and send laughter to his audience. He saw himself a soldier and wanted to be a part of the Jamaica Defence Force. Fragrance attended the Ginger Ridge All Age school from 1985 -1995. During this period he was very active in music, art, sports and drama. He was always a quick learner and had very good penmanship. Despite this, he fancied the practical rather than theory. His favorite subjects were: Mathematics, History and Agriculture. Being a free spirited individual, Fragrance was often given the opportunity to organize concerts at the school, where he would involve other students. In his final year he was the school's head boy and, also, captain of the cricket team. In 1995, Fragrance attended Prospect College in Ocho Rios, a para-military institution, thereby increasing the likelihood of becoming a soldier. Prospect College was also a musical school- Music theory and practical was compulsory at Prospect –and he joined the school's marching band as a bugler and was also a member of the school's choir. In his final year Fragrance was appointed Drum Major for the marching band. He also got two distinctions in music theory from the Royal School of Music. Despite all this, his interest was not music, even though he had developed a love and skill for the art. During his final year at Prospect, Fragrance dropped his interest in the army. Being an individual who easily facilitate changes, he decided he would join the Jamaica Constabulary Force instead. In 1999 King Fragrance became a member of the JCF where he served as a Tourism Liaison officer and also as an investigator in Negril’s Criminal Investigation Branch (CIB). In 2002, he showed further glimpses of his musical talents freestyling at the station and was motivated by other members of the organization to take music more seriously. Fragrance began recordings with 13th Tribe Music and collaborated with Big Beast on a single called "Government", where he actually spoke out against the organization from which he was a part of. The single was aired on local radio stations and surprised many people that it was actually coming from a police officer. However, he could not fully focus on music due to his job requirements. In 2005, Fragrance resigned from the JCF and started working at Alumina Partners of Jamaica(Alpart), as a Security Co-ordinator. Whilst at Alpart, he linked up with music producer, Sonny Spoon and was an instrumental voice on the Sons of Spoon Label. He recorded the single "Dirty Step Daddy" featuring Anthony B and Nickeisha Barnes on the Chemistry Rhythm. He wrote other singles on the label, two of which attained number one(1) position on the local chart. In 2009 Alpart was forced into closure due to the world recession. Fragrance was made redundant and he used the opportunity to solely focused his music career. He is currently working with manager Elvis Haughton. He is produced by Kevin “Rural” Whyte and Germaine “Big Beast” Ranglin on the Rural Area and Barcodez label respectively. His singles “Africa” and “Black Light” are now officially released on the Rural Area Production label.
