Gospel Music: “a divine purpose to spread the good news of the Gospel through song; a divine worship experience communicating with God; coupled with humility and a purpose to generate a positive respond.” THE HOLY SPIRIT! It was during the tender age of 8 years old, after the death of my younger sister, Janie Elizabeth, in a small town called Forrest City, Arkansas. I remember God placing a song of praise on my heart while sitting on the porch. I began to sing and looking toward heaven. I knew then that there was a God somewhere. I was raised and influenced by a strong spiritual mother (the late Elizabeth Lott), and realized that I couldn’t go wrong with serving the one and true living God. At the age of 19 years old I begin singing in the Ebenezer Baptist Church Choir in Zion, Illinois. The piano player, the late Juanita Jones, gave me the opportunity to lead a song, “I’ve already been to the Water” and soon I was known throughout the Lake County area for my lead on that song. In 1980 I produced and wrote my first 45 titled “Lord Will You Use Me” and “I’ve Already Been to the Water”. Soon after the release I traveled promoting and ministering that project. In 1985, with the help of God, I co-produced and released a seven-song Cassette titled “Reach out For Jesus.” During that tenure God continued to open doors for me. This cassette was played on local and national Gospel Radio broadcasts. Tommy Lewis of Nashville Gospel conducted a live TV performance and interview referencing the history of “Reach Out For Jesus.” In 1986, I had become a member of Greater Faith Church-Baptist located in Waukegan, IL under the leadership of the late Pastor C. L. Fairchild. Under his leadership, many doors were opened and I was able to broaden my horizons. This gave me the opportunity to record lead vocals with the late Reverend C.L. Fairchild and the Voices of Greater Faith national CD releases “I’ve Got a Testimony” and “Have You Tried Him.” Not only was I recording with the Voices of Greater Faith but Sunday morning worship service was televised and I was one of the lead vocals during that worship service as well. In 2003, I executive produced with the great Richard Gibbs my first CD, “Build Bridges Instead of Walls.” During the course of promotions with this project, I have had the opportunity to work and fellowship with known artists; Leanne Faine, Inez Andrews, Evangelist Shirley Caesar, Paul Porter and the Christianaires, Lee Williams and the Spiritual QCs and many others. Much of my national television exposure began with a live taping for Chicago’s Testify and Dr. Bobby Jones Gospel new artist showcasing in 2005. I have been married for thirty-two years to Robert Hayes. In 2006 we lost our two sons sixty days apart. Lt Robert Hayes who was killed in a bank ATM robbery and Aaron Hayes as a result of a automobile accident. They were the only two children that we had. In February 2007 I recorded a CD titled, “Thank You Jesus One More Time” in memory of our sons, Robert and Aaron. Nathan Young of Nashville, Tennessee produced this project. My purpose is to keep my eye on the sparrow because I know God watches over me. This ministry is not about me, but the God that I serve.
