Even though this recording was completed over thirty years ago it still sounds as fresh and relevant today as it did then. One of the reasons for its longevity is the genius of Daniel Lanois, who with much love, engineered the sessions on half inch tape at 15 ips. The tracks were recorded live to tape at his Grant Ave. studio in Hamilton, Ontario in the spring of 1982 with the assistance of Canadian folk artist David Essig and other participating musicians. The idea behind this project was to compose and perform tunes that reflect a deep connection to the Yukon landscape and its natural raw beauty. John and Scott wanted to create a series of audible snapshots of their northern experience and publish them on vinyl. These instrumentals are like glistening gems that conjure up an idea of the impossible far north, even for those that have never been there. Happily it still resonates with many fans who are discovering and rediscovering this music.
