" Detroit’s own Funk Brothers, known for their background vocals and instruments on many Motown chart-toppers, headed back to the recording studio for the first time in 40 years. The group recently recorded the song, “Because of You,” a tribute to President Obama’s legacy as the nation’s first black president. The Funk Brothers touring member Gary Martin co-wrote the song. He told WWJ Newsradio 950′s Scott Ryan the collection of talent at Detroit’s Studio A that day was unbelievable. “Some of the different members that had been a part of Funk Brothers came in to see this recording themselves. It was a high moment because everyone felt all of the brothers and the sisters who had passed, being a part of that, where there,” Martin said. Original Funk Brothers member Eddie Willis said it was magical. “You know, I sat there after it was finished — if you don’t mind me saying this — you know, I had tears in my eyes. I really did, because it just reminded me of what we used to do,” Willis said.
