简介

The day after Valentines day, a day known for heartache; the Flagrant Few (Ant Branch, Age Bellefonte’, BW) and Hella Maze released the Flagrant Few’s debut entitled The Break Up. It features song from and inspired by breakups, and also features production and lyrics from Hella Maze on nearly every song. The cover artwork mimics the feeling of the sounds complete with broken heart and black and white color, or lack thereof. The title track “The Break Up” is intentionally low, to reflect the feeling of a girl “playing you” Ant Branch said. Listening to his album, Writers Block, one can hear that Hella Maze is a true emcee with something to say, and not just another hipster, gangster or backpack rapper. The first song he tackles addresses the issue of lack of lyrical content in the music industry today, along with marginalizing the female point of view; and celebration of “goods over good people”. “All Night” presents the lyrical issue in an unbiased way; in that he is saying he has at times fallen victim to the same pitfalls. But in all honesty, Hella admits that he loves Hip Hop, even though “the culture is not [perfect]”, as his hook laments sung by Adam Wilson-Thomas he ” can only see himself spending time with you”, a reference to an undieing love for hip hop music and culture . This humble and respect-filled attitude that he is just a small part of Hip Hop culture continues throughout the album, like on tracks like “On Another Level” and “Destiny.” However, Hella Maze’s topic choice goes beyond questioning nursery school style rhymes, women and jewelry based raps. It encompasses a respect for Hip Hop, rock and blues. Hella Maze is truly cognizant of the world around him, and himself as a person.
